THE STORY OF Glashütte
NOMOS Glashütte, one of the few owner-operated watchmaking companies in the world, creates the finest mechanical timepieces in the small Saxon town of Glashütte. NOMOS watchmakers count among the very best in their field—what they have mastered is still a challenge for their colleagues elsewhere. That is because watches have been crafted in Glashütte for more than 175 years. NOMOS Glashütte is part of this long tradition of German fine watchmaking. In accordance with the protected designation of origin for watches made in Glashütte, the watchmaking company produces its in-house movements on-site with a production depth of up to 95 percent. NOMOS Glashütte creates watches in accordance with the principles of the Deutscher Werkbund, the precursor to the Bauhaus movement: The combination of outstanding craftsmanship with the renowned prowess of German engineering on the one hand, and of advanced research with state of-the-art technology on the other, is the foundation for the superior quality of its timepieces. The characteristics shared by all NOMOS watches include top-quality materials, refined dials, elegant and usually slender hands, narrow bezels, and an exceptionally clear form—many models have long been considered classics. In the “Highest Quality 2021” study (Höchste Qualität 2021) conducted by the German F.A.Z. Institute and the IMWF Institute for Economic Research, NOMOS Glashütte was awarded with the “Highest Quality” seal. Following a wide-ranging online-analysis over a period of one year, the watchmaker reached top marks in the categories Product and Service, Availability, Customer Satisfaction, Innovation and Quality and finished in first place out of 80 companies in the watchmaking industry. Furthermore, they have received more than 160 prizes for watchmaking craft, design, and quality.

Now there is a new caliber for these watches: neomatik date, also known as DUW 6101. The name neomatik stands for an entirely new generation of automatic calibers—highly precise, slender, and produced by NOMOS in Glashütte. It began in 2015 with DUW 3001. And now there is DUW 6101, the new and very innovative, self-winding movement that enables the NOMOS classics to feature a tailor-made date display. Over three years of research and development went into creating this caliber. The new date can be set quickly and easily in both directions. A timely update.
